Valaena Ironfeather

Dark Ranger

Banshee

Corpsegrin Irregular

Character Description

For this darkfallen, it would appear from first glance that she has not lost any of her elven beauty. Despite the deathly pallor to her skin she would, at first, appear ethereal. However, if one was to stare for longer than a glance, they would get an unsettled feeling. As if an invisible hand was trying to force your gaze away. If one was to persist past the glamour, they would find her face does not hold the expected beauty of the elves and instead would be considered by those looking upon her as an odd and entirely off putting visage.Gaunt features stretched over bone and skin that despite laborious work is cracked and dry. A haunted red gaze settled deep in dark hollows made all the worse by the elongated canines that appear when her face cracks into a smile. Her movements, while graceful, can at times seem forced and her voice sounds as if it is not wholly connected from the mouth that speaks it.Regardless of this darkfallen’s clear vanity to resemble the living she is, behind the glamour, a truly ghastly and hideous thing to behold. The longer one lingers, the more they would pick out the parts of her that are not common traits amoung the Quel’dorei. While standing slightly shorter than expected and possessing shorter ears than one is used too, it may perhaps simply be the result of a sickly child being stunted from birth. To another a potential fire for rumours in her days amoung the living.

The Fall of House Ironfeather

Those who are familiar with Quel'dorei houses of old would likely recognise the name Ironfeather. A minor house within nobility who were renowned rangers going back to the inception of Quel'thalas.Throughout the later years, it would appear that for one reason or another, offspring were difficult to sire.
The last remaining descendant Alea Ironfeather and her husband, the Magister Kath’ren Ironfeather, were only able to conceive one heir together during their long marriage despite their efforts.
While official records note Magister Ironfeather as Valaena's paternal father. Alea Ironfeather openly took a human lover, Irvan Wyther, whilst married casting doubt upon the child's actual parentage despite her being born after the affair began.Once Valaena had reached adulthood, the sudden death of her mother forced her to became the head of the Ironfeather household. She spent most of her life after this trying to rebuild both the family's reputation and now dwindling fortune due to the reckless ambition of her own father.Despite growing ill feelings towards certain groups of her kin, she took her duty as a farstrider seriously and aided in the defense of Quel'thalas and fought against the scourge on the front lines where she inevitably met her end. With the death of its last Matriarch, the House of the Ironfeathers had fallen leaving the Magister Kath'ren as its sole benefactor. During the recovery efforts, her body was found and was placed to rest within the family crypt along with her foremothers.Soon after the rites where performed, her father made the decision that both the family crypt and the estate would be sealed away forever to stand as a monument to his fallen daughter.

The Death of Valaena

Valaena’s death whilst known is also one shrouded in mystery and intrigue.Having been fighting down at the Thalassian pass in the first line of defense, the last known sighting of Valaena was of her aiding fleeing civilians near the village of Tranquillien. Most assumed she had fell to her death in defence of the village, but during the later recovery efforts her father recovered her body on the outskirts of the ruins of Suncrown Village. The story weaved by her own father was a simple one. Valaena, after having saved a group of villagers, was moving towards the Farstriders Retreat to regroup with the surviving rangers and push for Silvermoon and the Sunwell. Unfortunately, she met her death before she could make her way across the river. While an entirely plausible and likely story, some found it all too convenient that her father was the one to find her body which lay some distance from where she was reported to have been sighted last.It was not until her emergence within the ranks of the Forsaken Military that her kin were aware of her resurrection as a banshee.Little is known about what transpired between her resurrection into the Scourge and the reclamation of her freedom. If asked Valaena will mostly refuse to speak on it, unless she is within familiar company of her fallen sisters. What is known is that she was forcefully raised as a Banshee not long after her death and shackled into the service to the scourge. Upon regaining her freedom alongside the rest of the forsaken, she returned to Quel’thalas to reclaim her body and took up her bow once more in service to the Banshee Queen.

The Ironfeather Estate

Nestled up high within the mountain range that borders Quel’thalas and Lorderon lies the elusive Ironfeather Estate.Much like its aloof and reclusive masters, the spire is located precisely to remain at arms length of the Kingdom it serves and out of reach to general visitors. The terrain it sits upon was chosen deliberately for its difficult footing and cold weather conditions. It is no light task to pay the Ironfeather’s a visit without purpose or planning. What was once a grand estate has now been left to ruin, allowing nature to grow untamed and without restraint.
Any groundskeepers that had once been employed to tend to the estate grounds, even after its sealment, have long since disappeared.
At the door is a tarnished plaque, which reads:“Let this estate stand as a final monument to honour the last Ironfeather Matriarch.”
Be at peace with your foremothers, Valaena, for your rest shall be disturbed no longer.
Elor bindel felallan morin'aminor.”
